Agrihood Projects

An agrihood is a new approach to real estate development that integrates food and agriculture into a community. These can range from small urban sites to expansive rural communities. They typically include a residential element but may also have commercial, hospitality/hotel, Seniors, and more. Agrihoods often have more complex integration, operation and governance elements but offer opportunities for enhancing returns on more difficult sites. Serosun Farms

Serosun Farms is an Agrihood located in Hampshire, IL. The first phase is currently in progress with the roads and the model home completed. The project is an innovative rural mixed use project centered around farmland preservation. We worked with the Kane County Illinois planning and development staff to develop an innovative civic agricultural zoning classification in parallel with developing the farm concept. The first phase of the project will have 54 custom homes and when all phases are complete a total of 114 homes. Other amenities include an innovative market farm, high end equestrian operation along with commercial and retail operations related to the farm and an event venue. The project includes 410 acres of which two thirds will remain open space as farmland, restored wetlands, prairie, and woodlands. The homes on the project must meet stringent healthy and sustainable building practices and will at minimum meet LEED Gold standards.
